Sustainable Celebration: A Vibrant Champagne Bar at Decorex 2023

Sustainable Celebration: Interior Designer Laurence Katz Designs the Vibrant Champagne Bar at Decorex

Interior Designer Laurence Katz of Elemental Studio, a talented French designer based in London, has taken on the exciting challenge of designing the champagne bar at this year's Decorex 2023 exhibition with sustainability at the forefront of her vision. With just under 40 suppliers involved, she has curated a space that celebrates the artistry and craftsmanship of the UK while incorporating vibrant colours, biophilic design, and repurposable elements.

—a colourful tapestry of craftsmanship:

Katz's design is a celebration of art and craft, beautifully linking them to the vibrant ambiance of the champagne bar. Bright colours dominate the space, captivating visitors at every turn. The incorporation of architectural greenery from the talented Kasia from Cosmos and plum, brings a refreshing natural touch of biophilic design, creating a harmonious blend of aesthetics and sustainability.

—wallpaper and art engagement:

In Katz's design, wallpaper and art engage in a captivating dialogue, amplifying the overall visual experience. Intriguing patterns enveloping the champagne bar complement the bespoke artwork hanging above, creating a cohesive and immersive atmosphere. The interplay between these elements adds depth and personality to the space, making it truly unique.

—bespoke rugs from recycled plastic and natural materials:

Katz showcases her commitment to sustainability by using bespoke rugs made from recycled plastic and 100% natural materials, carefully crafted by Matthew Wailes and Ilaria Perra. These rugs not only add a touch of luxury but also serve as a testament to the possibilities of eco-friendly design. By repurposing materials, she promotes environmental consciousness without compromising on style or quality.

—repurposable bar tables:

Hidden Gems has provided bespoke high bar tables that can be easily repurposed, embodying the principle of sustainability and adaptability. These versatile tables offer flexibility for future use, ensuring that the design remains relevant even beyond the Decorex exhibition. Katz's thoughtful selection of such elements demonstrates her dedication to reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices.

—dynamic mobiles and biophilic design:

Flensted mobiles playfully adorn the ceiling, introducing movement and intrigue to the space. Katz's incorporation of hanging baskets further enhances the biophilic design, bringing the beauty of nature indoors. The dynamic sheers gracefully sway, creating a sense of enchantment and connection with the natural world.

—illuminating the space:

Kaia lighting, A Shade Above, and Studio Vayehi all provided beautiful fittings that cast a warm and inviting glow throughout the champagne bar. These carefully selected lighting fixtures enhance the ambiance, highlighting the vibrant colours and textures in the space. Brajak Vitverg's lamps on the bar add an extra layer of elegance, creating a captivating interplay of light and shadow.

—wooden furniture with a purpose:

To support a charitable cause, Katz has chosen Goldfinch bar stools from Goldfinch. Goldfinch is one of the enterprises run by London Reclaimed, a Southwark based charity that is helping 16-25 years olds step up into employment.  These sustainable stools not only contribute to the overall aesthetic but also make a positive social impact.

Interior Designer Laurence Katz's sustainable design for the champagne bar at Decorex is a true testament to the power of creativity and conscious decision-making in the world of interior design. Through the careful selection of suppliers, incorporation of vibrant colours, biophilic design, and repurposable elements, she has created a space that harmoniously celebrates craftsmanship while embracing sustainability.
